High Carbon Steel Shot and Grit production

We are proud to have our own production line for excellent high carbon steel shot and grit within our group. Our plant is using  state of the art technology to fabricate the high quality product:

  • Centrifugalizing process instead of high water jet streams to atomize the liquid steel into more spherical and uniform particles.
  • A second heat quenching gives the abrasive a more uniform chemical and internal structure, making the abrasive less brittle.
  • Air quenching instead of water quenching results in fewer micro cracks and thus a better durability of the abrasive
More information

High carbon steel grit and shot are produced by atomization of molten steel followed by a series of thermal and mechanical treatments in order to give the product the desired characteristics.

  1. Careful selection of the scrap.
  2. Melting the scrap in the electric induction furnace, adding the necessary alloys.
  3. Atomisation through centrifugalizing to get a uniformly shaped grains.
  4. Screening to get the right grain sizes
  5. Spiralling to remove the irregular shaped shot
  6. Quenching for superior particle integrity with minimal stress cracks
  7. Tempering to get the correct hardness
  8. Second screening
  9. Packaging of steel shot and steel grit.

Before, during and after the process, our in-house quality control department continuously verifies the consistency and the quality of our abrasives.

To ensure quick delivery Airblast-Abrasives B.V. has all common grades of high carbon steel grit and shot available from stock, in 25 kg bags or big bags on a EURO format pallet. We keep a stock of more than 750 tons of steel shot and grit in Holland.

What is media-blasting and what are the benifits?

Media blasting, also known as sandblasting, is a process of propelling abrasive media at a surface to remove contaminants, paint, coatings, or other substances. It is also used to prepare a surface for powder coating.

Various different types of media are used depending on the project, the surface, and the desired effects. At Airblast you will find all these blasting media on our website.

There are lots of benefits to media blasting. These include:

  • Surface Preparation: Media blasting is an effective way to remove rust, scale, paint and other contaminants from a surface. This prepares the surface for painting, priming, welding, or other operations.
  • Surface Cleaning: Media blasting quickly and thoroughly removes surface contaminants without damaging the underlying substrate.
  • Improved Appearance: Media blasting can restore a surface to a uniform, attractive appearance.
  • Cost effective: Media blasting can be used on a variety of surfaces and is very cost efficient.
  • Environmentally Friendly: Media blasting is a non-toxic, non-destructive method of surface preparation. Therefore it is considered an evironmental friendly way of surface treatment.

Service

Airblast-Abrasives is pleased to advice on the most suitable abrasive blasting media for your application.

An important aspect of a successful blasting operation is balanced working mix. The small abrasive particles are for coverage and blasting speed, where the larger particles determine the profile depth (Rz or Ra). It is critical that the operating mix is balanced and free of dust. We regularly do sieve analysis for our customer to analyze if the working mix is correct.

Besides that we perform roughness tests on the blasted work pieces at our customers facilities and we have the possibility to do trails on the samples in our blast cabinet.
